Ellen Munson

Ellen Munson has been working with children her entire life. She taught at Healdsburg Montessori off and on for the past seventeen years. She started as a teacher’s aide and worked up to co- teaching with the owner and director of the School. Ellen studied Child Development at Santa Rosa Junior College and also has her Montessori Teacher's training.

When she is not working you can find her at home taking care of her three teenage children. She is very active in her community of Cloverdale where she has held many different positions with the PTA. She started the Cloverdale Spring Dance with another mom five years ago. This fundraiser continues to bring much needed revenue to the youth of Cloverdale. She has been married twenty-two years, and her husband is Captain of the Healdsburg Fire Department and has been employed there for the past twenty-three years.

Working with children is always been her passion. She hopes to enstill the love of learning in your children, as well as create a warm and safe environment for them to come to every day.

Dr. Maria Montessori (1870 -1952) was the first woman medical practitioner in Italy. She subsequently became concerned with the problems of education of young children and formulated a "child centered" methodology of teaching, which has greatly influenced educational practices around the world. She developed the rich and extensive academic curriculum with beautiful hands-on materials that is seen in Montessori Schools worldwide, serving infancy through high school. The prepared environment encourages the child's sense of responsibility and independence. It encourages them to progress at their own pace according to their own needs and interests, with the teacher as their guide. Respect for each other, care for the environment and love of learning are some of the many benefits of Montessori Education.
